Dennis P. Vaillant, D.D.S., MAGD


For Dr. Dennis Vaillant, dentistry is not just an occupation–it is a vocation, a hobby, a way of life. His patients will tell you, he not only enjoys what he does, he does it very well.

He earned a BA and a BS from the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1965 from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He entered the Navy and served a rotating internship at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He returned to civilian life after five years, but continued his love affair with the Navy in the Naval Reserve and retired as a Captain in 1991 with over 30 years of military service.

Dr. Vaillant’s various associations include a series of studies at the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Florida; a two year course of study with the United States Dental Institute for Orthodontics; membership in the prestigious Minnesota Academy of Restorative Dentistry since 1986; membership in the Academy of General Dentistry since 1971; Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) in 1993 and one of only a handful of dentists in Minnesota with a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD) in 1995; membership in the American Dental Association and the Minnesota Dental Association. He has served as officer, delegate and held committee chairmanships at the local and state levels. He is past president of the Goodhue County Dental Society as well as past president of the Southeastern District Dental Society. He is currently chairman of Peer Review for the Southeastern District.

Dr. Vaillant’s civic activities include past president of the United Way of Red Wing, past president of the Noontime Kiwanis Club and past president of the Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife Lynn, a dental hygienist, both come from the Twin Cities. They have been married more than 35 years and have three sons, Peter, Matthew, and Daniel and four grandchildren.

Dr. Vaillant’s desire to be a health care professional came at an early age. Growing up in a dental family in Red Wing, he knew he wanted to work in the health care field. Providing care for people is his favorite part of the job. He considers providing information to his patients and offering them a variety of treatment options a very satisfying aspect of his career.

Dr. Vaillant attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he earned a B.S. in Biology. He later graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2001. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Minnesota Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry, where he is currently working toward his Fellowship. Dr. Vaillant is also a member of the Noontime Kiwanis Club. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Vaillant grew up in the local Environmental Learning Center and enjoys spending time fishing and biking with his family.

Dr. Vaillant and his wife, Christy, live in Lakeville, Minnesota with their two young children, Drew and Madison; where they are active in their community church. Christy works as an independent communications consultant in Edina, Minnesota.
